Lead, Zinc and Copper Roofing

Lead can be formed into complex shapes by either dressing or welding [referred to as “burning”] and is commonly used for flat roofing, vertical cladding, flashings, soakers etc at abutment and termination details in association with all of the other types of roof and wall coverings.

Available in a variety of thicknesses from code 3 to code 8, with lengths, thickness’s and applications covered in the “Lead Sheet Training Academy” guidelines.

Fixings of lead will normally be carried out with copper nails or stainless steel screws or nails, with lead, copper or stainless steel straps used to secure against wind uplift.

Zinc, copper etc., usually referred to as “standing seam”, systems would normally be installed with stainless steel clips and fixings.

Zinc and copper sheets are generally 0.7mm thick with folded, welded or soldered at details / intersections with flashings often preformed giving clean lines to external edges.
